What Would You Know About Purity, 2025
Anezka Rattonsey is a Bombay-based artist, a magician with a paintbrush, who finds joy in creating beauty both on canvas and beyond it. Alongside her painting practice, she is known for adorning celebrities and international clients with precious, sustainably grown lab diamond jewellery, an extension of her sensitivity to form, material, and quiet luxury.
Her paintings are apocalyptic yet intimate masterpieces, a cathartic expression of the dark and sensual side of her imagination. Working primarily in oil, Rattonsey’s practice explores states of being through figuration and the recurring presence of animals. Emotion, for her, is a form of knowledge: something sensed rather than declared, understood through attention, restraint, and time.
Figures within her works often appear as partial or turned bodies, resisting performance and spectacle. They do not demand to be seen; instead, they remain inward, withholding narrative and certainty. Animals recur as companions and guardians, offering a parallel language of instinct, one that holds, protects, and negotiates the human interior without explanation.
Rattonsey’s process is intuitive and receptive. Her paintings remain attentive to moments of becoming, asking how sensitivity can be held as a form of strength, and how inner life may be made visible without being exposed. Rather than dramatise emotion, her work contains it, allowing tension, devotion, and vulnerability to exist in quiet equilibrium.
